When listening in a home setting, I often listen deeply to interplay of the instruments, pushing and pulling at the melody and rhythm. I find this especially pleasing with a nice pair of headphones (I just got the entry-level SHURE RH240 $50). Nothing like a really nice Terrapin unfolding into your stoned ears late in the evening...

The tapestry woven by the song selections during the show is like a ever-evolving story, that builds a certain emotional tone as songs are performed after one another. That is probably the reason why I love listening to the Grateful Dead so much... the flow between moods on some shows is just right. The contrast of a lilting Cryptical reprise jam with the sheer power of an Other One, is another great example of this type of effect.

Just to clarify, it does not take 3 months to "burn in" a pair of phones...

They definitely provide an enjoyable listen straight out of the box, but the mix of high/mid/low will balance out after ~100 hours of listening. It is not drastic, but a subtle and positive change.

They only get better with time :)

Glad to contribute positively, my friend :)

The headphones will have a "burn-in" period, meaning that they will get "broken in" after so many hours of listening. I find the lows to be more accentuated now after ~3 months, the highs to be more precise, and the mids just bloom and bloom. ENJOY!
